Adamson Frosh Guide No. 14

Never try messing with the guards. Srsly? They are like the bosses of Adamson. If you want to graduate with a clean slate, just don’t play smart-ass around them. At the end of the day, whether you like it or not, their decisions always prevail.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 13

If you want to excel in your class, be sure to memorize the Adamson University Vision and Mission, as well as the Adamson Hymn. These are the usual topics for the first quizzes in your minor subjects including PE and Theology.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 12

You will always remember your unfinished homework while you are crossing Falcon Walkway on your way to your first class. Why? It is because you will see a store of school supplies and two computer shops there, and seeing them will really remind you that you shouldn’t be feeling easy at the moment.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 11

You can play basketball, volleyball, and badminton at SV Quadrangle. Just proceed to the Physical Education Department (located besides the Adamson Gymnasium, SV Building), and surrender your ID to the faculty there in exchange of the things you need like a ball, a net, rackets, etc.

If you can’t find a seat at the canteens inside the school, then go out because there are a lot of food stalls outside the campus as well, most especially in the streets of Zobel, Sylvia, and Mercedes. Some of the famous eateries there are the Yang Yang Eatery, Tolentino Eatery, Yum Yum Eatery, Jap’s Eatery, and Penny’s (we know that doesn’t sound nice).

SM Manila is also tumblings away from Adamson University and has a lot of famous food chains such as McDonald’s, Jollibee, KFC, Chowking, so on and so forth.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 9

Freshmen always flock inside the University Store (located at the Cardinal Santos Annex Building) on the first week month and buying school uniforms and required textbooks. Usually, the textbooks being required by the professors can only be bought at the University Store and are not available outside the campus (congratulations, Adamson students do not really need to go to the busy streets of Recto just for textbooks) because the authors are mostly Adamson professors, so good luck!

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 8

Adamson University is quite a lucky campus because it is not really a flood-prone area during rainy seasons. When it’s raining hard, the areas of our neighbor-schools (the schools located at the left side of Adamson; PNU and TUP, and the school located at the right side of our school; EAC) usually get flooded already while our beloved school is still looking nice - and just wet.

The last time flood reaches our grounds was last September 2009, during the monstrous Typhoon Ondoy.

“CLASSMATE!” — don’t be so shocked or surprised when somebody calls you “Classmate!” even if he/she is not really your classmate. That’s basically the “trademark” of every Adamsonians. Don’t be shy. You can call everyone “Classmate!” if you do not know his/her name.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 6

If you ever feel like you wanna poo-poo, the best CR you can go to is located at the 3rd Floor of ST Building, near the NSTP Department. That CR is barely visited by the students, so you need not to bother if people might see you poo-poo-ing. Plus, there’s always a pail of water in there and tabo.

Indeed the best CR to go to in case the nature calls you.

Pao Tsin is not the only food stall inside ST Canteen, and ST Canteen is not the only canteen inside Adamson!

2011 PBA D-League: Freego Jeans, Blackwater enter quarterfinals

2011 PBA D-League: Freego Jeans, Blackwater enter quarterfinals
By Mark Giongco

MANILA, Philippines – Freego Jeans leaned on its explosive troika as it upset the Maynilad Water Dragons, 88-81, and move on to the quarterfinal phase of the 2011 PBA D-League Foundation Cup Thursday at the Arena in San Juan.

Eric Camson, Lester Alvarez and Alex Nuyles combined for 68 points to fend off the seemingly sluggish Maynilad squad, which is fresh from its US training.

“It’s a big opportunity for us being able to make it to the quarterfinals, I think a lot of people have counted us out ever since our 0-3 start,” said Freego coach Leo Austria.

“Slowly we are figuring it out how to win close games,” added Austria.

Freego will tangle with Cebuana Lhuiller in the quarterfinals.

Freego outscored Maynilad 26-16 for a 71-62 spread to end the third period that proved to be enough of a cushion to grind out the win.

Camson, the big man with the soft touch, had a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds while the sharp-shooting guard Alvarez poured in 16 of his 25 markers in the second half.

Nuyles iced the game with a pair of free-throws that set the final count.

Alvarez hit six-of-11 from downtown.

Melo Lim led the Water Dragons with 15 points.

In the other playoff match, Blackwater Elite survived the Junior Powerade Tigers, 68-66.

Blackwater squandered a slew of double-digit leads before dodging a bullet in the waning seconds of the game after Powerade’s Alvin Padilla missed an open triple.

“Win by 20 or win by one, still a win is a win,” said Blackwater Elite coach Leo Isaac, whose team will face Max Bond in the quarterfinals.

Blackwater led 68-59 at the 3:03 mark of the payback period before costly errors down the stretch allowed Powerade to pull to within two, 68-66 courtesy of a putback by Mike Gamboa.

Gio Ciriacruz’ basket at the 4:03 mark of the third period extended Blackwater’s gap to its biggest, 50-36, and looked well on its way to a smooth-sailing victory.

But the Tigers had other plans as they charged to a 13-2 blitz that pulled them to within one, 51-52 to start the fourth period.

Ciriacruz led Blackwater with 21 points.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 4

If you are living in a boarding house located in streets like Sylvia, Zobel, Mercedes, Ayala, or Teresa, we have good and bad news for you; the good news is there is a gate located at Zobel street. The bad news is college students are not allowed to use that gate, only grade shool and high school students are allowed to. You will still have to go to San Marcelino and use the gates there.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 3

Don’t attempt to cross San Marcelino street while the big trucks are approaching no matter how late you are in your first class already. There are a lot of trucks crossing San Marcelino street because of the big factories located in Ermita, and there are a lot of buses as well coming from Park ‘N Ride and SM Manila, so the vehicles crossing San Marcelino street are no jokes.

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 2

There are seven major buildings and three annex buildings in Adamson University and take note that in ten buildings inside the campus, only one building has an elevator - the OZ Building. Don’t worry too much because the buildings in Adamson are not really that tall. And besides, walking is good for your health. :)

Anyway, the buildings inside the school are as follows;

  • Saint Vincent Building

  • Saint Therese Building

  • Cardinal Santos Building

  • Francis Regis Clet Building

  • John Perboyre Building

  • Fr. Leandro Montañana, C.M. Building

  • Ozanam Building

  • Cardinal Santos Annex Building

  • John Perboyre Annex Building

  • Ozanam Annex Building

Adamson Frosh Guide No. 1

These are the places in Adamson where you can eat your breakfast and lunch;

  • SV Canteen - besides the old ROTC office.

  • ST Canteen - near the ST Quadrangle.

  • OZ Canteen - besides the LM Library.

  • JP Canteen - at the ground level of the JP Annex Building.

  • BA Canteen - between the BA Building and the Adamson Theater.

  • Gallery Cafe - besides Adamson Theater, near OZ Carpark.

  • Garden Cafe - besides the Falcon Radio Station.

Shakey’s V League: Lady Eagles prevail over Lady Bulldogs

Shakey’s V League: Lady Eagles prevail over Lady Falcons

By Celest Flores

INQUIRER.net

MANILA, Philippines— (UPDATE) Ateneo de Manila UniversityLady Eagles prevailed at the heels of a forfeiture of its first win even as Adamson University Lady Falcons powered its way back to the finals of the Shakey’s V-League 1st conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles, upon learning of the forfeiture this morning, left no stones unturned in game two as they socked the National University Lady Bulldogs, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20.

“I just told the kids that we shall not do anything that will affect how we play on the court,” said Ateneo head coach Charo Soriano, whose squad knotted the series at 1-all.

They definitely played like they hadn’t lost a valuable advantage as the Lady Eagles held the Lady Bulldogs on a chokehold for the entire match.

Guest player Kesinee Lithawat had 20 points, while Fille Cainglet led the locals 12 on 11 kills and a block.

Ateneo’s 25-27, 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 victory in the semifinals last Thursday was declared forfeited on a technical error on using a libero after a protest was filed the NU. (A “libero” is loosely defined a defensive specialist who plays in the back row or the player in a team who sports a jersey with a different color and design, and could enter and exit the game without permission from the umpire.)

The Lady Eagles fielded Beatriz Tan in libero as a regular player last Thursday, and was even allowed to play the entire fourth set.

But apparently, libero players registered cannot revert back as a regular player according to FIVB (Federation Internationale De Volleyball) regulations.

Soriano admits her coaching staff was at fault and takes full responsibility, but feels like things like that “could have been prevented.”

What could have been a 2-0 lead for the Lady Eagles turned to a free-for-all game three to be played on Thursday (May 12) at 4pm in the same venue.

Meanwhile, the Lady Falcons just made short work of University of St. La Salle-Bacolod in the best-of-three semifinals by downing the Lady Stingers, 26-24, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, in game two.

Guest player Nerissa Bautista fired in 22 markers, while skipper Angela Benting added 19 for Adamson, who are determined to avenge its runner-up finish to San Sebastian last year.

“We expected to be back in the finals. We wanted to finish the series immediately, and that’s what we did,” said Lady Falcons coach Dulce Pante.

Adamson will await the winner of the Ateneo-NU match.

V-League: Ateneo, Adamson go for the kill vs semis rivals

V-League: Ateneo, Adamson go for the kill vs semis rivals
Tournament favorites Ateneo and Adamson go for the kill against their respective semifinals rivals on Tuesday and set up a Finals showdown in the 8th Shakey’s V-League First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

Adamson battles University of St. La Salle-Bacolod in the first game at 2 p.m. while Ateneo clashes with National University at 4 p.m.

The Lady Eagles and the Lady Falcons will try to formalize their entry by finishing off the semifinals series with a victory against their opponents and hope to arrange a rematch of the 2008 First Conference titular showdown.

The first time these two teams met in the Finals, Adamson defeated Ateneo.

“Kung makakaya naming tapusin na, pipilitin na namin para wala na kaming ibang aalalahanin, makakapaghanda pa kami ng maayos sa Finals,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante after her team won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22, in the opener of the best-of-three Final Four series last Thursday.

“Wala na kaming gagawing adjustment. Kung ano yung nilaro namin ngayon, ganundin ang gagawin namin sa susunod. Pero may tututukan ako ngayon, yung spike ni Mic-Mic.”

Mic-Mic is none other than Laborte, one of the team’s guest players and top hitters, who only made eight points in the first game. But Laborte is still recuperating from a right arm injury which she incurred while playing beach volleyball in Indonesia late last month.

But USLS is not ready to throw the white towel.

Guest players Aiza Maizo and Jovelyn Gonzaga were given a few days to the Lady Stingers’ system. They struggled in their first game, where they combined for only 13 hits.

Also expected to make up for her conference low six points last Thursday is Patty Owrendain, the team and league’s leading scorer.

Like the Lady Stingers, the Lady Bulldogs are battling for survival. They lost 27-25, 14-25, 10-25, 19-25. But Ateneo coach Charo Soriano is not counting out NU, which is playing with nothing to lose.

“The Lady Bulldogs are resilient, they are capable of coming back in this series,” said the Ateneo’s rookie mentor.

Soriano will again pin her hopes on their explosive guest players — Thai Lithawat Kesinee and Alyssa Valdez.

NU coach Francis Vicente will rely on his guest players Denise Santiago, Cherry May Vivas and Monique Tiangco in hope of salvaging a win and forcing a do-or-die match. -RCJ, GMA News

Shakey’s V-League: Adamson clinches semis over Lyceum, USLS beats FEU

MANILA, Philippines—Adamson Lady Falcons clinched the last semifinal berth after showcasing a defensive clinic over Lyceum Lady Pirates, 20-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 in the Shakey’s V-League Season 8 First Conference Tuesday at the Arena in San Juan.

Nene Bautista proved to be too much for the Lady Pirates as she dominated with 29 points, 26 of which were attacks.

“I just told them to play, our floor defense was great, that’s what we really practice,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante.

In the opener, University of St. La Salle Lady Stingers continued its stellar play as it turned back wavering Far Eastern University Lady Tamarraws, 19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-10.

Already in the semis, the Lady Stingers pounced on the poor reception by the Lady Tams led by peppery spiker Patty Orendain who fired 17 points.

The semifinal round will start on Thursday (May 5) with USLS taking on Adamson at the 2pm game as National University clashes with Ateneo in the second match.
