V-League: Adamson, FEU secure q'finals seats
Adamson closed out its elimination round campaign with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-16, win over College of St. Benilde Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 8 first conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
The win put the Lady Falcons in a three-way tie for the lead with idle Perpetual Help Lady Altas and the St. La Salle-Bacolod Lady Stingers with similar 3-1 slates.
But the Lady Falcons could only end up at No.3, owing to an inferior tie-break score after they lost to the Lady Altas via forfeiture for violation of eligibility rules.
The Lady Altas secured the No.1 spot in Group A and edged the Lady Stingers due to a higher FIVB ratio.
Adamson will advance into the next round with a 0-1 carry-over slate and will join No.1 Ateneo and No.3 Lyceum of the Philippines University in the group.
“Basta lalaban na lang kami,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante.
Three Lady Falcons finished in double figures — Michelle Carolino (17), Angela Benting (14) and Paulina Soriano (11).
The Lady Blazers absorbed their fourth straight setback, their 14th straight since last season’s first conference. Their latest loss gave National University a free ride to the quarterfinals.
NU carries a 1-3 win-loss card and secures the fourth and last quarterfinals slot in Group B.
In the second game, Far Eastern University spoiled the return of San Sebastian import Jeng Bualee as the Lady Tamaraws upstaged their rivals, 26-24, 28-26, 22-25, 25-13, and claimed the last quarterfinals seat in Group B.
The Lady Tamaraws raced to a hot start in the fourth set as they posted a 9-4 lead and never looked back to end the campaign of the Lady Stags.
FEU also won the first two tightly-fought sets, but lost the third set when the hard-hitting Bualee began to make her presence felt for San Sebastian.
The Thai import led the Lady Stags with 26 hits and two blocks, but she failed to get ample support from her teammates as the Lady Tamaraws went for the kill in the fourth set. - RCJ, GMA News
