Kwentong Adamsonian: Rejie Agdigos

200511076, that is my student number when I took up ECE in Adamson. Unfortunately, I did not finished it because of failing subjects and I found out that engineering is not for me. Anyways, two years in engineering is a great start to find out what is the right course for me. I gained many friends, and until now nasa Adamson pa rin sila.

I shifted from ECE to Web Development Course in AMA College in Pasay but still I've decided to come back in Adamson kasi sayang yung mga units na nakuha ko doon and I realize na iba pa rin talaga sa Adamson. That's why I continued studying Information Technology and I came back 2008.

My Last year in college was also an unforgettable experience most specially the Thesis Making.

Three years in IT Course was a great experience.

Last year, over 90,000++ full version Microsoft software were distributed to students around the country – from Manila to Bacolod and even as far as Cagayan de Oro. This year, the Microsoft Academic Team in partnership with the Microsoft Student Partners will again launch an anti-piracy campaign – BurnFest 2011: Work,  Play, Learn. LEGALLY!
Burn Fest 2011, is a follow up to last year’s OctoBURNfest where Microsoft Student Partners promote the use of legal, genuine Microsoft software. Through academic programs like MSDNAA and DreamSpark,  students and faculty are given easy access to the latest Microsoft software which they can use in their studies. And as part of the fest, the Microsoft Student Partners will  be doing technical sessions to train students on how to fully utilize the developer and designer tools and help them develop the skills to get the right job and power to change the world.
BurnFest 2011 highlights include:
·        Distribution of full version Microsoft Developer and Designer Tools
·         Talks and Hands-on workshops on the following technologies:
o   Microsoft Technology Updates
o   Microsoft in Education
o   Mobile Development
o   Web Development

Kwentong Adamsonian: John Arbie Congson

I was an incoming freshman back then. Enrolled na nga ako sa Mapúa Institute of Technology no’n eh. But I have to withdraw my credentials. I was advised by my scholarship granter to enrol on a different school because my program at Mapúa is not identified as a program under my scholarship grant. Nalungkot ako syempre. Dream school ko kasi ang Mapúa eh (next to La Salle) since I’ve chosen ECE to be my program. May list ako ng schools no’n and it’s May, so most schools aren’t going to accept applicants anymore. The only school left is Adamson. Kaya kasama ang nanay ko (oo, she’s with me, takot akong pumunta sa Manila alone kasi it’s my first time and I guess everybody, if not, experiences a first time), we went to Adamson.

I told my mom, “Mabubuhay kaya ako dito?”
Mataas pa ang pader sa harap ng SV building no’n (in case you don’t know). Luma ang pintura, walang security guard na nagpapatawid sa mga tao at wala pa ang wall structure that bears our school name sa tabi ng ST gate. In short, sobrang plain ng Adamson dati.

Una kong nalaman that Adamson has the biggest chemistry laboratory in Southeast Asia (trivia ‘to kaya tandaan n’yo). Also during that time, Adamson is one of the top 20 schools in the Philippines (hanggang ngayon naman yata eh). Lastly, I was happy to know then that Adamson is a UAAP member (wala pa ‘kong idea na underdog ang Adamson sa basketball no’n, marahil dahil wala namang may balak magkuwento tungkol do’n).

Then came the UAAP season. That was the year when Adamson has finally gotten a seat in the Final Four since the Final Four format was introduced on 1994. Sina Ken Bono (who was then awarded as the season’s MVP) at Patrick Cabahug  ang star players. Suspended pa nga ang La Salle no’n because of a player’s fake profile.

When Adamson made it to the Final Four that year, was also when I started to feel proud as an Adamsonian. Naging favourite color ko pa nga ang blue no’n at naisipan ko pang lahat ng gamit ko should be in blue. Wala talaga akong collections, pero pagpasok ko sa Adamson, nakatuwaan kong itago lahat ng resibo ko at lahat ng grades simula Prelim of First Sem of my first year. Kahit sa’n ako magpunta, whenever I was asked by a friend, a peer, or a neighbor kung sa’n ako nag-aaral, binubuo ko ang pagsasabi ng “Adamson University”. I always wear my ID before and after going to school (wala kasi tayong unique identity gaya ng uniforms ng FEU at UST, kaya to be recognized, I always do this). I cheer for every game kahit nawawalan na ‘ko ng boses at halata namang matatalo na ang Adamson (‘yong iba nga dati, 3rd quarter pa lang lumalabas na ng Araneta). I always sing the Adamson Hymn in every program that I’m attending sa school and after every UAAP game. Ang OA na ba? Sa ‘kin kasi hindi. This is how I simply show my school spirit.

Kaya guys, be proud. Don’t be shy and get intimated. Ang kaya ng iba, kaya rin natin. ‘Wag nga lang sa kalokohan. Hehe. ‘Wag kayong magpapalait. Speak up. (I’m not saying that we’re not good in English.)
I know in time you will do the same. Hehe.

In the end, I still believe that the moment one chooses to study at Adamson would also be the same time he/she has started to become proud of being an Adamsonian.

Kwentong Adamsonian: Jose Lester Correa Duria

I remember vividly: it was six summers ago when I first set foot in this institution. I was with people my age crammed at the CS building, trying their luck in entering this great institution of learning. But my predicament was entirely different from them --- I had no money to pay for the required tuition fees. All I had was the exact fare in my pocket to go back home if I fail.

I came from a family that is not privileged. We could be considered as one of those so-called insignificant in our society and by standards we are called poor. my father was a construction worker who pushed his frail body to the limits to earn money and feed a growing family until his body gave up and passed away. My mom was a food vendor (died last March 2010). there were nine of us in the family, me being the six child.

It was next to impossible for me to secure and education. We are poor and in life's reality, the poor can only wishfully dream, and that's how far it can get. But that didn't prevent me from dreaming: I knew in my heart that if I persevere, gaining a college degree will come into realization.

And it was Adamson University that gave me that one chance in life in fulfilling the impossible.

I was fortunate enough to be given the scholarship offered by the university to those who graduated valedictorian in high school. And soon enough, I was in college and studying in a school considered to be one of the finest Catholic educational institutions in the Philippines. But how I wish life could be that simple.

While maintaining the high grades that I needed to obtain at the end of the semester in order to continue my scholarship, I still had to work to bridge my financial needs while studying. It was tough and truly indeed, it was difficult. I study in the morning and at night I work, barely having time for myself. Many times, in my solitude, I couldn't help but cry. yes, I went through that, for I thought how forsaken my life was.

I should be having fun at this age; I should be at parties, gimmicks, mingling with my friends at school, doing typical things a normal teen ager does, and enjoying my youth. But mine was otherwise --- I was stuck wiping floors and flipping burger patties at a popular food chain at night while guys my age were having all the fun.

They were one of those moments when I felt desolate, but still I remained steadfast. I just held on to the promises of God that HE WILL NEVER LEAVE ME NOR FORSAKE, that HE WILL MAKE A WAY WHEN THERE SEEMS TO BE NO WAY, and that ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.

I knew in my heart that if I continue to pursue this dream of having a college degree, a significant change in my life will happen someday. And now, as I write this testimony before you, it is only by God's grace and His unfailing love that I was able to weather that adversity of life, and I consider myself truly blessed. I finished despite the insurmountable hardship that a young man has to go through.

     Mabuhay ang lahat ng Adamsonians!
